Ma Huang

 

Ma huang has been used for hundreds if not thousands of years in Chinese medicine.  It is typically used in herbal formulas to treat lung disorders such as asthma.  Unfortunately, it has been abused by supplement manufacturers in America and it is only sold through acupuncturists in herbal formulas.  This herb is only used in small quantities and for short periods of time in Chinese herbal remedies.  It is never used to increase metabolism.

Chinese medicine indications:

Releases exterior, disperses cold.

Facilitates flow of lung Qi, controls wheezing. For cough and wheezing due to obstruction of lung Qi.  Descends Qi.

Promotes urination, reduces edema.
