Astragalus is called “Huang Qi” or “yellow energy”. It is often used as an immune tonic in Western Herbal Medicine.
Chinese Medicine Indications:
Tonifies the spleen, augments the Qi – for spleen deficiency with lack of appetite, fatigue and diarrhea
Raises the yang Qi of the spleen and stomach – for prolapse disorders such as prolapsed uterus, stomach or rectum, also uterine bleeding
Augments the protective Qi, stabilizes the exterior. For deficiency with spontaneous sweating, stabilized the protective Qi. Tonifies the lungs – used for frequent colds or shortness of breath.
Tonifies the Qi and blood
Promotes urination and reduces edema – edema from deficiency
Promotes discharge of pus, generates flesh – for chronic ulcerations and sores due to deficiency that have formed pus, but have not drained or healed well
Wasting and thirsting, numbness of the limbs, paralysis, painful obstruction
Dry fry or honey fry to tonify the Qi and raise the yang, use raw for abscesses and other conditions.
